Are Christian Nationalists Saved?

February 27, 20253 min read

The question of whether Christian Nationalists are saved has come up several times in conversations and personal reflections. It is always comforting to know that the Holy Spirit highlights specific passages as we study Scripture, guiding our understanding. Since the beginning of this year, several relevant Scriptures have stood out to me, helping me to definitely answer this question.

Point #1: I Do Believe That They Are Christians

One of the most relevant Scriptures is found in Matthew 13:36-43, where Jesus explains the parable of the wheat and the weeds. In the earlier verses (24-30), Jesus describes a farmer who sows good wheat seeds, but as the seeds grow, weeds appear among them. When asked whether the weeds should be pulled, the farmer advises against it, explaining that removing them prematurely could also damage the wheat. He instructs that they should grow together until the harvest, at which point the angels will separate the wheat from the weeds.

This passage highlights the patience and wisdom required in judgment, emphasizing that ultimate judgment belongs to God. This suggests that while we may see troubling behaviors among Christian Nationalists, it is not our place to make final determinations about their salvation.

Point #2: A Deception Operates Over a Segment of the Body

Some may take the wheat and weeds parable as a reason not to judge at all. However, another passage clarifies this issue: Matthew 7:1-5. In this passage, Jesus instructs us to first address the sin in our own lives before we attempt to help others with theirs. The NLT version states that once we have dealt with our own sin, we "will see well enough to deal with the speck in [our] friend’s eye." This does not mean we should ignore wrong actions; rather, we should engage in self-examination first. A deception may be operating within a segment of the Body of Christ, leading some to align more with political ideologies than the teachings of Christ. However, our role is not to judge their salvation but to discern their actions and remain faithful to biblical truth.

Point #3: Judging Actions and Behaviors in the Body

Matthew 7:15-20 warns us about false prophets, comparing them to wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Jesus teaches that we will recognize people by their fruit, meaning their actions and behaviors reveal whether they are following Him. While we cannot judge a person’s salvation, we are called to discern between good and evil based on their fruit. If a movement or individual promotes division, hatred, or supremacy, it is contrary to the teachings of Christ.

Point #4: A Religion That Denies the Power of the Living God

James 1:22-24 reminds us that hearing the Word without applying it is like looking into a mirror and immediately forgetting our reflection.

Looking in the mirror and forgetting what you look like.

The Message Bible makes this even clearer in James 1:26-27, stating that religion that is all talk is self-deception. True religion involves caring for the vulnerable and resisting corruption. If Christian Nationalism prioritizes political power over Christ’s love, it risks becoming a religion that denies God’s true power.

Point #5: Praying for Our Brothers and Sisters

In summary, while we may call out actions that do not align with Scripture, we must do so with righteous indignation rather than malice. Some Christians may have supported political movements we disagree with, but that does not mean they have lost their salvation.

At the end of the day, God’s concern is with His Church, not with a political system. Instead of judging the salvation of others, we should pray for them to bear good fruit for the glory of God, trusting that He alone is the ultimate judge.
